No established lawn should be watered more than 2-3 times per week, even in hot conditions. Do not rely on timers for irrigation as temperatures will dictate water needs in addition to lack of rainfall. Continue "grasscycling". Mow 1-2 times weekly, removing no more than 1/3 of the height.

If water isn't penetrating the soil, your lawn may need to be aerated or dethatched. Water lawns with one inch of water per week (more during long, hot dry spells).

Early summer and early fall are great times to aerate in Portland and much of the PNW. I prefer aerating in early fall and applying lime at the same time. You let your lawn breathe, drink, and expand the way it wants to. You also lessen the amount of moss that will creep in this winter.
